Modeling Transport and Adsorption of Arsenic Ions in Iron-Oxide Laden Porous Media. Part I: Theoretical Developments

چکیده

The process of transport and trapping arsenic ions in porous water filters is treated as a classic mass problem which, at the pore scale, modeled using traditional convection-diffusion equation, representing migration species present very small (tracer) amounts water. upscaling, conducted volume averaging method, reveals presence two possible forms macroscopic equations for predicting concentrations filters. One convection-dispersion equation with total dispersion tensor its main coefficient, which obtained from closure formulation similar to that passive diffusion problem. other form includes an additional hitherto ignored literature identified here adsorption-induced vector. These coefficients latter are determined system problems include effects both well adsorption by solid phase filter. This theoretical effort represents first serious introduce detailed micro–macro coupling while modeling homogeneous media.

Adsorption and Desorption Process of Chromium Ions Using Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Its Relevant Mechanism

In this study adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution by Fe3O4 nanoparticles was investigated. Desorption process and recovery of nanoparticles using different solutions were then carried out, and it was observed that NaOH (0.5M) can remove 90% of adsorbed chromium ions. Following the completion of adsorption/ desorption cycles, it was determined that nanoparticles have still had a high abil...

Core-scale description of porous media dissolution during acid injection – Part I: Theoretical development

Dissolution mechanisms in porous media may lead to unstable dissolution fronts (“wormholing”). It has been shown in the literature that Darcy-scale models may reproduce all the characteristics of such dissolution patterns. This paper considers the core-scale averaged behavior of these Darcy-scale dissolution models. The form of core-scale equations is discussed based on the volume averaging of ...

Interfering effects of Iron(II) and Arsenic(III) in the Cerium-based adsorption technology in Bangladesh

Arsenic (As) contamination in the groundwater of Bangladesh is one of the major public health concerns. It has become a challenge to remove As from groundwater and a great deal of efforts employed in this regards with limited success. Cerium oxide is one of the important medias of arsenic removal techniques. Nine units of cerium-based arsenic technology were tested with seven different well wat...

Transport Property Estimation of Non-Uniform Porous Media

In this work a glass micromodel which its grains and pores are non-uniform in size, shape and distribution is considered as porous medium. A two-dimensional random network model of micromodel with non-uniform pores has been constructed. The non-uniformity of porous model is achieved by assigning parametric distribution functions to pores throat and pores length, which was measured using ima...

Porous silicon functionalization for possible arsenic adsorption

Thiol-functionalized porous silicon (PS) monolayer was evaluated for its possible application in As (III) adsorption. Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) attached to mesoporous silicon via amide bond linkages was used as a chelate for As (III). Two different aminosilanes namely 3-(aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) and 3-aminopropyl (diethoxy)-methylsilane (APDEMS) were tested as linkers to evalua...
